About Cortona...
Cortona is one of the true jewels of the Tuscan “hill towns.” Cortona, which is often called the “City of Art,” has its origin as an Etruscan city that pre-dates Roman times with sections of its walls dating back some 2500 years. As is typical of Tuscan hill-towns, Cortona is a walled city that, for purposes of defense, was built atop a prominent geographical point. The stone buildings and streets not only have the romance, style, and charm that are particular to Tuscany, but also speak of the lives and times Cortona has witnessed. An encounter with Cortona is an encounter with music & art, with history and with spirituality. Getting to know this timeless city is a real rediscovery of our past. Cortona offers testimony to its history as well as an enchanting view of the landscape enclosed by Lake Trasimeno and the Apennine mountains.
About "A Digital Stretch in Tuscany"...
Take advantage of today's technologies combined with totally new techniques developed by digital artist Mary Ann Rolfe to create exciting art forms and projects in a wide variety of media. We'll concentrate on what to do with your photos and graphics rather than on creating the graphics. Whether you are using your digital photos, scanned images, clipart or images from the wide variety available today, you will learn some exciting new techniques to utilize these images in a variety of art/craft disciplines.
The techniques you will learn were developed over several years by Mary Ann as she experimented to find new ways to add interest and excitement to her own designs. She'll share these new techniques along with combinations from other craft disciplines applied to the digital print and mixed media world. We’ll explore Digital Glass, Translucent Window Panels, Embellishment Techniques, a variety of transfer techniques, Digital Tiles and more. See A Digital Stretch website at www.digitalstretch.com for more details on these methods.
During these busy days you will learn many processes. Rather than focusing on completing projects , we’ll have the luxury of time for learning, testing, creating, practicing, exploring and producing. You will be provided with techniques, resources and inspiration so you will go home energized, motivated and confident to create your own projects. During one of our sessions we will review images and memorabilia from our visit to Tuscany and design a step by step plan for you to use once you’ve returned home to create a project using the new skills you have learned. Overcoming roadblocks and reducing frustration are also skills you will learn.
Although the examples shown utilize art created on the computer, this workshop is not just for digital artists. If you are computer savvy, you'll learn many new tricks and tips. If not, you can scan and/or photocopy your images. Images will be provided for you or you can bring your own. Traditional artists, scrappers, mixed media, collage, book artists and crafts persons of all types will learn a variety of stand alone, transfer and embellishment techniques to create exciting, PROFESSIONAL projects. All skill levels are welcome.
If you have a laptop, you may want to bring it to try out image techniques that will be introduced. If you are not currently using the computer as an art tool, there will be a laptop available so that you can spend some time seeing what's involved in learning these skills and deciding whether or not that's a direction you'd like to pursue. There will be ample time for individual help.
Your designs will become even more adventurous as you are inspired to learn more graphic and computer skills.
