Supply List
What to bring...
Participants are required to provide their own art supplies, preferred paints, brushes & tools along with a portable easel. A suggested list of art supplies for oil, that Carolyn uses, is listed below. Some of these items may also be purchased in Cortona and Florence.
Note: Do not pack prohibited items in carry-on-luggage! They will be confiscated. Bring your smallest, lightest weight version of each item. Remember that you will need to carry your own gear as we travel from one painting location to another.
Plein Air Workshop Supply List
Paints (any brand, professional grade if you can afford. I use mostly Winsor & Newton, but also use Holbein, some Rembrandt, etc.
1. Titanium White
2. Cadmium Yellow Lemon
3. Cadmium Yellow
4. Cadmium Red Light
5. Alizarin Crimson or Permanent Alizarin Crimson
6. Manganese Blue Hue (Winsor & Newton makes this in the professional grade) If you can’t find it, then Pthalo will work
7. Ultramarine Blue
8. Viridian (optional)
9. Yellow Ochre Pale or Yellow Ochre
10. Terra Rosa (optional)
11. Transparent Red Oxide or Burnt Siena
Brushes
4-5 brushes including some either bristle (hogs hair) filbert or softer brushes, (mongoose or synthetic), such as Rosemary & Co Brushes (Ivory) ranging in sizes for instance #2, 4, 6, 8, 10.
1 Rigger brush, size #0 or similar.

Medium
Winsor & Newton Liquin Alkyd Painting Medium, small bottle, original formula
Canvas
Canvas panels, 11 x 14 or under, such as Raymar, Windriver, Centurion OP DLX, or canvas cut and primed to tape to a board for mounting later. you will need at least 2 per day.

Easel
Easels used for plein air painting, such as half-sized French Easel, (M.A.B.E.F. or Julian are good brands), Open Box M, Guerrilla Box or Easy L , or Strada

Palette
This may be included in your easel. If not, a non-white palette of your choice, preferably 12 x 16, toned, Either plexi glass, wood, etc. (no glass due to possible breakage)
Miscellaneous
1" or 2” Angular trowel shaped palette knife or similar
Brush washer or other container for Mineral Spirits. Mineral Spirits (MS) may be purchased on location. DO NOT PACK AND BRING. IT IS ILLEGAL TO BRING OMS ON FLIGHTS. Participants purchase their own mineral spririts or equivalent.
Paper towels (Viva Kleenex is good) or any brand
Razor blade or scraper to remove paint from palette
Blue pastel pencil (for drawing on canvas, optional)
Sunscreen and bug spray, plastic grocery bags for trash
Plein air umbrella or for sure a hat or visor.
